Morris Zimman founds our first dry goods shop on Number Six River Street in Lynn, Massachusetts. Morris, who was always searching for GREAT BARGAINS, purchased the entire contents of a sunken ship, and sells slightly soggy muslin on the sidewalk for 15 cents a yard.

Barry Zimman, relocates Zimman’s to the former Goddard Bros. Department Store, our present location. Barry runs year long marketing promotions, giving away World’s Series tickets, T.V.s, “Mr. Peanut dolls” and “The World’s Largest Baby Ruth” candy bar. Even Boston’s WBZ’s Captain Bob and his puppets appear at Zimman’s.

Zimman’s third generation, Barry and Phyllis’ son, Michael Zimman, opens an indoor antique and flea market. At the same time, Barry and Michael buy designer fabric at auctions in New York City and beyond. Zimman’s fast becomes the Boston area’s “hidden secret” for fabric. With smart buying and a continued commitment to excellent customer service, Zimman’s is the region’s premier spot for decorative fabric.
Zimman’s debuts furniture and home accessories on its second and third floors. Featuring an eclectic mix of home furnishings from bohemian to traditional, Zimman’s makes it mark as “the place to go” for savvy designers who want high quality and fair prices.
We turn 100! Zimman’s continues to evolve, introducing design services and custom products, along with one of America’s largest selections of fine fabrics. Its floors filled with vintage to avant-garde fabrics, Zimman’s welcome new customers from the area’s burgeoning film and theatre industry—the “word is out!”
As fourth generation Daniel Zimman joins the team, we continue the legacy of sourcing decorative and home furnishing items that reflect fine taste and value. Zimman’s closes its doors for the first time in over 100 years due to the COVID 19 Pandemic. Daniel, Randi and their two daughters create a music video sharing the “magical world of Zimman’s” for all to enjoy during these trying times of isolation. Zimman’s reopens their doors in the summer of 2020 offering their “concierge service,” serving their customers, one at a time.
